I know that the world is now going to be governed by this enigmatic matieral known as ‘Magos’ and that every living being born into Arbvar is branded with a mark of it. I know that this mark can potentially bestow the bearer with an innate ability or an enhanced characteristic or even give them access to the mystical arcane arts. I know that this mark was said to be a scar or a reminder of punishment for the early ancestors of Esterm’s inhabitants, for pillaging a world’s ‘Eden’.
A direct inspiration and reference to the concept of the paradise, a world’s Eden upon the branches of Arbvar is a sacred place. The idea is that when a world is first developing, it has an ‘Eden’ an untainted spot where all life on that world branches from. Rich with Magos and life, an Eden itself grows very tree like and sprouts ‘seeds’. A world’s Eden is found at the base of the ‘Scion’ which is the reference to the tether of the branch of a growing fruit. As a mark is a life line to the people, these Eden seeds will be the Marks for the things they sprout. Each seed will be a continent's or places ‘Heart’. When an Eden has matured and the world’s shell has too, it will disperse these seeds which contain powerful knowledge and essence, to grow further continents and life. Life bloomed prematurely before the Eden had matured itself and so the curious inhabitants and creatures managed to snag a seed and ingested it amongst them.
“The inhabitants of Esterm begin to develop senses. They become curious. They become fearful. And a little aware. They investigate the world around them and implore the still developing lands. They eventually branch off, into separate species. These curious creatures find themselves investigating Esterm’s ‘Eden’. A world’s Eden is supposed to be its private garden. It is the vault of the life of a planet that is still developing, where its seeds to disperse sprouting hearts, form. They find the Eden bears its seeds, upon a makeshift tree. Seeds that are bound to be the hearts of Esterm. Some creatures can not reach the fruit as a lake surrounds the base of Eden’s tree and the branches spiral high into the sky. But some had evolved to fly."
"…however, shortly after ingesting this fruit it is said that the consumers were scarred and branded with the very first Magos Marks. It is said the marks are a permanent reminder of this sin, the invasion of an Eden. That the Arbvar marks them…"
"So the Eden in retaliation, disperses its remaining seeds prematurely. They fling, out of reach of the grubby and greedy beneath its hollow, and fly out all across Esterm in a shower of silver."
In retaliation for the consumption, the consumers were branded with a mark which would both act as a reminder and punishment, for if that was consumed or punished, the bearer would die. However in ingesting the seeds – the creatures were gifted with greater intelligence and a potential for arcane skill in a lottery at bestowal. The sort of story format of the events above is a faith theory. In the present age of the story – this is what some believe as no one can truly remember that long nor has lived that long except the ‘Projections’.
As these hearts dispersed, they became the foundations for the eventual land above sea level. They would germinate and grow like a form of land fungus. The spot where they would land would become a land’s ‘Heart of Origin’. This part would be the core – the heart – as a mark is for a person. Working in the same way as marks do, a land’s ‘Heart’, if destroyed, would lead to it withering and dieing. Although there are many ‘Hearts’ to making up an entire continent, if one where to be destroyed this would mean only its sector would shrivel, yet even this would have devastating complications. All Hearts appear to be wired and honed to a central ‘Hub’, the Arbvar itself and the World’s Fruit’s collective life status. Keepers, protectors and feelers of these hearts are beings known as ‘Projections’.
So what are Projections? The next post will elaborate and explain them -
